Widely considered William Castle’s masterpiece, The Tingler showcases the director at his most inventive. Fresh off the success of House on Haunted Hill, Castle introduced his infamous “Percepto” gimmick: select theater seats were wired to deliver a mild electric jolt during key moments, making audiences feel the Tingler’s attack firsthand.

The film also features a striking color sequence—blood spilling from a faucet and filling a bathtub—that became one of Castle’s signature shocks.

Castle would go on to craft more cult favorites like Homicidal and 13 Ghosts, and later produced the landmark hit Rosemary’s Baby.
